> that’s a very good question. it’s renjun because he’s normal but insane. like at first glance ppl think he’s just a cute, nice guy, right??? both are true but…. there’s a lot of earnest depth to him that I rly appreciate. “insane” is used pretty broadly here HDJSJD like I think you can more easily describe someone like jaemin with the word Deranged (positive), but with renjun there’s a suppressed intensity that is very intriguing & cool to me (& relatable I won’t lie). I feel like these days he’s even more actively demure when the focus is on him?? but the kid who was bopping his head back n forth with the glow-in-the-dark heart glasses is still in there… he’s like genki but intense at the same time idk… he’s very likable to me. I’m also very charmed by his voice, predictably. I really treasure that when he sings it sounds like he’s enjoying it & is proud of his skill. that one mariah freaking carey part in irreplaceable, anyone??? > Yes! 😁 I think it was around 2013 that I realized how much I enjoyed giving my all singing along to songs I knew by heart. I was listening to fob, the strokes & mcr a lot back then, a lot of them songs I knew back in middle/high school. I don’t have any training so my technique isn’t anything to write home about, but I’ve been told I have a pleasant voice in the rare occasion I do brave singing in front of others. took me several years of hearing that here & there to fully internalize it tho hehe

I also think that recent times have proven the perception of reality is as malleable as when we couldn’t get on a metal bird & traverse the globe in some scant hours & access to information was a lot more limited. not everything out there is the truth, which sounds obvious but it’s important to remember. objectivity is harder than we’ve been led to believe in the past 50 or so years w the advent of recording & broadcasting technology. so even if we did film everyone it’s about what actually gets seen, how it gets spun & how the public reacts to the information. ummm in short my opinion on surveillance is mind ur own business. ~as we know~ idols have their images managed quite a bit, so it’s interesting to me when for their job they have comeback styling that could be considered alt or goth (glitch mode, the wack-ass (positive) firetruck styling… definitely anytime they have ppl wearing buckles, belts, chains lmao) but as far as personal style, some of those idols don’t wear clothes like that at all, even if they look great in them (looking at you, glimo renjun huang 🥲)
I think alt street fashion has gotten pretty popular lately esp as far as like uhh trendy boutique brands go, & it’s cool to see which idols gravitate towards that look in their casual wear. I will also say that unless it’s acceptable as “a current trend” I feel like not many idols would commit to being Alternative on Purpose in like a counter-culture way. if anyone knows any idols that are proud goths pls direct them my way so we can be best friends… I mean uh. so I can stan 😃 I will also take metalheads. please I’m begging
as far as listing actual idols, off the top of my head:
- ten lee has got to top this list. his art style says it all imo HDJSJD & also he seems committed to going his own way as much as he has room to which I respect. I still remember when jisung put a black smiley face charm on his mask holder & told him it reminded him of ten… he was right idk… I loved it 😭
- taeyong (style-wise he’s for sure worn clothes some would call ‘insane’ & I would call Good. that’s sum goth bullshit! wearing crazy shit for fun despite possible backlash)
- onewe’s cya… MY KING… I def think he leans into alt style on his own & pulls it off well. tiktok e-boys if they slayed
- taemin…. mostly for stage concepts but like… that shit comes from a catholic goth’s heart. iykyk
- KEY!!!! the gasoline concept confirmed it for me LOL I think he could be a ryan murphy fan (scream queens, ahs, etc). he’s definitely like… into costuming that’s not only ornate but definitely plays off classic ~goth~ tropes pretty well. theater goth!
- yuta (seen him wear a chunky cross necklace in a goth way more than once. also one time I saw him wearing chrollo-like earrings when he had black hair so… that’s pretty goth to me! casual cosplay is goth. has he talked about liking visual kei stuff? cuz that would be neat)
- chanhee from the boyz…. a pastel goth king to me for sure for sure
- ningning…. hear me out… I know that aespa’s concept is ~edgy~ in general so their stylist-assigned clothes can lean alt without their input but…. ningning’s alt party girl playlist convinced me… idk if she’d identify as goth but I was definitely impressed & pleased by the music on that list 😌
- winter….. is strange. it might be kind of a stretch but that’s pretty goth to me HDJSHJDJF idk that much about her personal fashion sense but I appreciate her weirdness. for contrast, karina is also weird but she’s more earnest than winter is imo… & that puts karina in the nerd camp more than the goth camp for Me. I love aespa u guys…
- speaking of weirdos… the person that I’m most excited to put on this list is…. na jaemin 🎉🥳🎊👏🏽🖤 with him specifically it’s definitely about his general attitude & not necessarily about style (though he is pretty health goth a lot of the time if u think about it…). he’s such an against-the-grain type of guy, & I think that fits this broadened “goth” idea pretty well. I won’t lie I modeled it based on him 😭 he is the blueprint (for this answer). nades from the work it unit content? premium jaemin goth moment… there’s a lot I could say about jaemincore so I’ll cut it off here before I start professing my love for gothpilled shawty once again 🙄

honestly I recommend the whole album (yuyoyuppe’s For a sick boy) if you’re ok w potentially upsetting subject matter. & I know you didn’t ask this But if you like this kind of thing, I also heavily recommend roshin yukai/meltdown sung by rin. def top 5 vocaloid songs for me as well.
